At GRAVA’s March Workshop, we focused on Getting the Right Volunteer for your Organization with Effective Interviewing. Jeannine Panzera, Program Manager with Henrico CASA, lead the workshop and highlighted the importance of the interview process to ensure the right fit for your organization and the volunteer. Jeannine provided members with a helpful overview of the interview process including, how to ask the right questions, what you can learn from those interview, and how to evaluate the interview/interviewee. See her full presentation here. You can also view her Sample Applicant Interview Form, Sample Questions to Assess Competencies, and Sample Interview Evaluation Form.
Jeannine closed by reminding us that when managed well, volunteers can have transformative experiences and gain countless benefits including new skills, valuable career connections and increased self-esteem — and the interview helps make sure it’s the right fit. See pictures from the event!
Be sure to attend GRAVA’s April 3rd Roundtable where we’ll dive even deeper into effective interview practices through peer-to-peer learning activities. Our special guest will be Laurie Dever, the Vice President for Human Resources & Leadership Development with the YMCA of Greater Richmond. Laurie will be speaking on the importance of volunteer interviewing in managing risk for your organization.
