“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey is one of my favorite songs! I think it conveys a great message and motivates me to not limit myself or doubt my capabilities. I begin my first President’s message with this because I don’t ever want us to stop believing in our power as leaders of volunteers. What we do is critically important and we need to be advocates for our profession. We believe in our volunteers and the work they accomplish. We see each and every day the impact they have on our organizations.
It is a privilege and an honor to begin my time as President of GRAVA. I have been a GRAVA member for 5 years and have been on the board for 3 of those. Board service has been a wonderful opportunity for me to get to know members, work on a cohesive team and make some meaningful changes to the way GRAVA operates. I want to thank Alison Jones-Nassar for her dedicated and passionate service to GRAVA. Under her leadership, GRAVA grew and changed for the better and it was a pleasure to work alongside of her and the other board members during this process.
I believe it is going to be a great GRAVA year! Our program chairs are working to create very relevant and needed topics for our breakfast workshops and roundtables. We are aligning all of our learning to the newly revised CCVA competency framework. It is a top priority for all of our members to come away from meetings feeling like time was well spent and ready to meet the challenges of working with and leading volunteers. It will be a year where we continue the tradition of combining content with opportunities for application. It will be a year where we restock our volunteerism toolkits. And it will most certainly be a year of professional and personal growth!
“Don’t Stop Believing” and I’ll see you in September!
