Melissa Gilmore, President, thanked our host and welcomed a great crowd to GRAVA’s celebration of IVM. After quick updates from Board Members, Shanone Sport, our host from the County of Henrico’s Department of Human Resources and trainer/organizational learning and talent development coordinator, spoke about the diverse departments enjoying service from a robust volunteer cadre of 1,500.
Carolyn Keller Sells, Certified Yoga, Yoga Therapy, and Yoga Laughter Therapy instructor provided a brief explanation of how a change in her career led her to teach and volunteer her time offering yoga classes to a range of students from 4 year olds at VCU Medical Center to 84 year olds at her studio. Then participants joined her in the back of the room for a series of interactive laugh scenarios and deep breathing to relax all at the end. The room was filled with laughter and good spirits with the other benefits of reduced stress, team building, and strengthened communication. Some of our visitors who had been enrolled in Nonprofit Learning Point classes are determined to sign up for GRAVA after this program.
And we were honored to have Laura Pilati and Eleanor Sharp Jones present from Nonprofit Learning Point to award 10 Certificates in Volunteer Resources Management to GRAVA members and students who had completed the requirements.
Participants were also invited to suggest a tagline to go with our new logo.
Many thanks to Kate Bausman for celebratory refreshments including a giant Sugar Shack donut and to Athena Huss and Laura Devitt for their work designing a useful and fun gift for IVM day which includes our new logo.
