Star of Wonder is a lyric from the carol We Three Kings of Orient Are. We don’t always take the time to stop and think how vital our roles as Volunteer Administrators really are. During this holiday season look around at all the roles super Star volunteers are filling. For example, the Salvation Army bell ringers, food pantry sorters, Angel Tree participants, servers in soup kitchens, coordinators of coat and hat drives, Toys for Tots participants, and the thousands of parent volunteers who make every holiday party and play possible, just to name a few! This year during the holiday season an estimated 7.7 billion hours of time will be donated by volunteers. Without our roles as leaders of volunteers, these activities would certainly be less successful and more unorganized, if they occurred at all.
Shining Stars are all around us. We are resilient, flexible and full of Wonder! We are able to make our volunteers feel equipped for the task at hand, supported, appreciated and a part of the “bigger picture.” We see a need and meet it and usually under budget! We keep our current volunteers engaged, recruit new ones and find ways to meet the mission. During this holiday season, I hope you have the chance to see what a Star you are to so many and how your contributions matter not only to your volunteers, but to your organization and the greater community.
Continue to shine like the Star of Wonder!
See you in January,
Melissa M. Gilmore, M Ed., CVA
